Constantine is the city of the bridges, it was built on a rock of more than 600 meters of altitude, surrounded by deep ravines, crossed by Rhumel, all this gave to the city his power of citadel.

CIRTA Constantine was built approximately 3000 years before J.C., Numides were the true inhabitants. One preserves the Caves of the Bears and the Moufflon whose majority of archaeological furniture is currently with the museum of Cirta.

Massinissa was a king de Numidie, he made of Cirta (Constantine at the time) the capital of its kingdom. Cirta knew an extraordinary economic advancement quickly. This rise was supported by the geographical position even of the city. The city was taken by the Romans, and was accepted the name of Constantine in homage to the Roman emperor Constantin. The arrival of Moslem civilization gave to the city another dimension, namely a cultural, scientific and religious dimension. The city was conquered by French in 1837, after two seats (the first having been in 1836, showed the defeat of the French Army). It knew another stage of its tumultuous history. Constantine keeps in it the traces of all civilizations which it knew:

Civilization numide, the visitor will find the tomb of Massinissa to Khroub to 16 km of the centre town, or the ruins of a strong Tidis soldier being with thirty kilometers of the city. Roman civilization, the statue of Constantin in front of the station of railroad in the centre town (in Bab El Kantara), or the viaduct which is with the edge of the city on the way of the international airport (Mohamed Boudiaf) of the city. Civilization Arabo-Moslem woman, the old city which is in oneself an architectural jewel. Turkish civilization, the palate of the Bey. French civilization, the European city.
